Building and Planning Services



The Inspection Department roles and responsibilities are identified below:

  • Quadrennial Inspections and condition assessments - ADOA inspects all 3,464 structures and reports their status to the Governor’s Office and to the Legislature once every four fiscal years.

  • New Construction Inspections– ADOA ensures that all new construction and major construction projects are in compliance with the building codes, plans and specifications approved by the ADOA Director.

  • Blue Stake locate requests - provide for public safety and underground utility locations.

  • Plan & specification retrieval – ADOA inspectors retrieve plans for architects, engineers, and GSD Construction Services to facilitate the design of new construction and remodeling projects.

  • Additional inspections request – ADOA inspectors provide additional inspections for special projects requested by state agencies or by ADOA staff and management.
